About The Principal

I am honored to begin my second year as the principal of East Mecklenburg High School. Serving as only
the eighth principal in the school’s 76-year history is both a privilege and a responsibility I take to heart.

This past year, East Mecklenburg celebrated its 75th anniversary, marking a legacy of learning,
leadership, and community that continues to grow stronger with each graduating class. Together, we
achieved something extraordinary—East Mecklenburg exceeded growth during the 2024–25 school year
and earned a School Performance Grade of B, the school’s first since 2018–19. This milestone is a direct
reflection of the dedication of our students, staff, and families who continue to uphold our tradition of
excellence.

I am a native Charlottean who grew up off Shamrock Drive and graduated from Garinger High School in
1986. I come from a family where education was not guaranteed, but deeply valued. My sister became the
first college graduate in our family, and my own journey took a winding path. After completing a Biology
degree at UNC–Charlotte, I briefly pursued law school at UNC–Chapel Hill before realizing that my true
calling was education. Teaching—and later leading—has given me the opportunity to do meaningful
work that makes a difference in the lives of young people.

What drew me to East Meck was the opportunity to serve in a school with deep roots and high
expectations. What has grounded me here—what has made this school feel like home—is the heart,
strength, and spirit of our students and community.

At each school I have led, my focus has remained the same:
          1. Building meaningful relationships with staff, students, and parents.
          2. Fostering professional collaboration to improve the quality of teaching and learning.

Those same priorities are alive at East Meck. Relationships remain the foundation of our work, because
no meaningful progress can occur without them. You will see me on campus and in classrooms—asking
students about what they are learning, their interests, their goals, and their plans beyond high school.

As I often share with students, my advice is simple but powerful: Be Nice. Work Hard. These simple
concepts ask you to lead with empathy, treat others with dignity and respect, and put forth your very
best effort—even when it is inconvenient. These values define who we are as Eagles and prepare our
students for the future, whether enrolled, enlisted, or employed.

East Mecklenburg has a proud past, but an even brighter future. I am grateful to lead alongside our
outstanding teachers, staff, families, and community as we continue the work of empowering students
to discover their purpose and embrace their potential.
